You think that you know subtle?
Here we have paint layers 4 and 5 on Benjamin Grimm. The Ever Lovin' Blue Eyed Thing just got a layer of medium orange mixed with white at about 2:5 in these next four pictures. The first two show the stage where I've covered just the top half of him with layer number 4. The next two show layer number 4 complete.

Here we have layer number 4 finished. Flash on.
Layer number 4, flash off.
This is layer number 5 complete. It's medium orange mixed about 1:1 with white and applied ONLY on spots that are exposed to the "light source" that is assumed to be directly above the figure at all times. This gives a subtle but definate extra "depth" to the finished figure, by highlighting areas that would appear that way in a larger model. Hard to explain, but in person the effect is noticable.
