A few more test shots...

This is to test what the larger "rear rank" figures will look like in their jars and to see what the smaller rear rank figures would look like in the jars that fit the larger figures.

Iron Man suits this one perfectly.

The same jar looks fine over Phoenix, despite her much smaller "normal" size.

Unfortunately, the smallest figures (This is an unpainted extra R2 D2, about the same size as my other R2 figure and the Yoda figure) look ridiculous in the large jar. This means that the Star Wars chess set will use two different smaller jars (one for pawns, one for rear rank) than the Super Hero sets will.

Finally a test with the smallest Super Hero rear rank figure, Professor X. His figure doesn't seem to be swallowed up the way the R2 figure was, so this style jar will work nicely for the rear ranks of all 4 Super Hero sides.

More tests.

Both of these figures are retired from the chess set line up, making them perfect guinea pigs for this test. I wanted to see how well my idea of filling the jar lids with clay and insetting the figures would work AND if just white base and black base would be enough to allow the peices to be identifiable.

Both figures are on the large side and neither are my favourite in terms of looks, so it's not a test of the figures but strictly of the base contrast and the look of the bases themselves when topped with a figure.

Former Marvel Heroes King, Mr. Fantastic, inset into white Sculpey clay, his base coated with one coat of metallic pearl white.

Under glass.

Former DC Villains Rook, Clayface, inset into black Sculpey clay, his base painted over with gloss black enamel.

Under glass.

Side by side in similar jars to compare the contrast of white and black bases.

Orange-ee Brown spots before your eyes.

Orange brown spots all over Cheetah and some flesh tone on her face. I think I'll go with a "mask" on her face, but I'm not certain.

Light Colonial Blue.

Light colonial blue drybrushed on Greedo's outfit and as an undercoat on Boba Fett.

Orang-ee Brown.

Orange-ee Brown on Greedo's vest and boots.

Scarlet Witch, Complete.

A final drybrushed coat of fuchsia mixed with metallic pearl white on her lighter parts and a tiny dab of fuchsic mixed with flesh tone on her cheeks and Scarlet Witch, Marvel Heroes Pawn is complete.

Namor, The Submariner, Complete.

Cobalt blue in Namor's eyes and Namor, The Submariner, Marvel Heroes Pawn, is complete.

Flesh tone.

Flesh tone touches on Namor's face and body.

Light blue.

Light blue mixed with metallic pearl white on the "water" on the figure's base.

Black.

Black on Namor's hair.

Cobalt Blue.

Cobalt blue on Namor's hair and the "water" on the figure's base.

White.

White on Prince Namor's goofy foot wings.

Bright green.

Bright green drybrushed on Namor's speedo.

Metallic Orange.

Before the big blob of metallic orange that I mixed dried up completely, I applied a coat to Wildfire's costume. I don't think he'll have a metallic finish, ultimately, but I thought an undercoat would look good and I was right.

Colossus, Complete.

Finally, for Colossus's hair, I mixed cobalt blue with metallic pearl white and once it was applied, immediately brushed it with a light coat of steel enamel. Colossus, Marvel Heroes Pawn is complete.

Steel.

Steel on Colossus's "skin".

Iron Man, Complete.

A final touch of metallic pearl white on the flames from his boots and on his chest device and Iron Man, Marvel Heroes Knight is complete.

Metallic Orange, Lightened.

I lightened the metallic orange I had created with some metallic pearl white and drybrushed it on the appropriate areas of Iron Man and Colossus.

Metallic Orange.

I mixed a metallic orange using metallic red, metallic gold and yellow. Applied to the appropriate areas of Iron Man and Colossus.

Metallic Red.

Metallic red on Iron Man's armour and on Colossus's outfit.

Test shots.

I received my shipment of test jars from Canwax today. Here are 5 of the larger figures inside the "Bulb Jar" for size tests. Eventually, the hollow lids of the jars will be filled with putty or clay and the figures inset into them so their little feet are flush with the lid itself.

Silver Samurai. He's the most problematic, since he is the largest of the pawns.
Here he is inside the 5 Ounce "Bulb Jar"

The Thing. Also problematic since he's so long from fingertip to heel.
He does fit in the 5 oz bulb jar just fine though.

Thor. I worried about his soaring height, but he fits in the 5 oz bulb jar just fine.

Iron Man. He isn't finished yet, but I wanted to see his fit.
He fits (barely) in the 5 oz bulb jar.

Finally another unfinished figure. Mr. Freeze.
His gun extends the figure so far that he barely fits.

Star Wars Rebel Chess Pieces Complete.

All 16 Pieces of the Star Wars Rebels "White" Chess Pieces.

Rebel Troopers, Complete!

A final touch of gloss black enamel on the visors of all 8 Rebel Troopers and they are finished.

Below are close ups by twos. As I took these, each figure required one or two tiny touches where a previous coat had strayed a litte, but they were all almost invisible and not worth documenting.
